Released in 1973 on DJM Records, the double album pairs John’s music with Bernie Taupin’s lyrics, taking in the theatrical sweep of “Funeral for a Friend / Love Lies Bleeding”, the reflective title track and the driving “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting”.

Produced by Gus Dudgeon, the album features Davey Johnstone on guitar, Dee Murray on bass and Nigel Olsson on drums, with orchestral arrangements by Del Newman.
