Released in 1989 by EMI, Virgin and PolyGram, this compilation brings together rock, pop, soul, dance and hip-hop, with artists including Queen, Paul McCartney, Soul II Soul, Neneh Cherry and Pet Shop Boys.

The selection moves from the muscular rock of Queen’s “I Want It All” to the relaxed groove of Soul II Soul’s “Back to Life (However Do You Want Me)”. Along the way, Roxette, The Beautiful South, Kirsty MacColl and The Cure add contrasting sounds, making this more than a collection of dance-floor favourites.

The beach-themed cover gives the album a summery identity, while the gatefold interior features artist photographs and notes on the tracks.
