Released in 1984 on Epic and produced by George Michael, it moves from the exuberance of “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” to the late-night atmosphere of “Careless Whisper”.

The album’s appeal lies in that balance. “Freedom” brings a bright, Motown-inspired energy, while “Everything She Wants” builds its tension around an insistent electronic groove. Quieter songs such as “Heartbeat” and “Like a Baby” offer space to appreciate the expressive detail in Michael’s voice.

With eight tracks and plenty of variety, this is an inviting record to enjoy from beginning to end rather than simply revisit for the singles.
