Thank You for the Music: A Collection of Love Songs is a 14-track compilation by ABBA — Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad — released in 1983 on Polydor Records, two years after the group's final studio album The Visitors (1981) and following the dissolution of both couples within the group. Rather than a straightforward greatest hits, this compilation draws on the more reflective and emotionally complex end of the ABBA catalogue — ballads, album tracks and deeper cuts that reward the collector who already knows the singles. Highlights include the rarely compiled Should I Laugh or Cry, the atmospheric I Wonder (Departure), the elegiac Our Last Summer and the Spanish-language version of Fernando. Slipping Through My Fingers — written by Andersson and Ulvaeus about the experience of watching a daughter grow up — has gained particular resonance in the decades since its release and is now regarded as one of the most emotionally affecting songs in the ABBA catalogue.
