Album Introduction
Bangles’ Greatest Hits brings together 14 tracks showcasing the Los Angeles band’s blend of jangling guitars, distinctive harmonies and polished pop. Released in 1990 on CBS, the collection spans material from All Over the Place, Different Light and Everything, alongside additional selections.
Featuring Susanna Hoffs, Vicki Peterson, Debbi Peterson and Michael Steele, the compilation moves from the guitar-led energy of “Hero Takes a Fall” to the gentle balladry of “Eternal Flame”. Production credits include David Kahne, Davitt Sigerson and Rick Rubin. This copy comes with the pictured printed inner sleeve, featuring photographs, song credits and liner notes.
Stand-Out Tracks
“Manic Monday”
Bright keyboard flourishes and layered harmonies give this weekday tale its irresistible pop appeal. The contrast between its breezy melody and hurried storyline makes it a memorable introduction to the band.
“Walk Like an Egyptian”
An instantly recognisable rhythm and playful vocal delivery make this one of the collection’s liveliest moments. Its unusual arrangement adds a distinctive twist to the band’s melodic pop sound.
“Hazy Shade of Winter”
Sharp guitars and urgent harmonies transform the Simon & Garfunkel song into a punchy rock performance. Its driving pace provides a powerful contrast to the compilation’s softer selections.
“Eternal Flame”
A restrained arrangement puts the lead vocal and delicate harmonies at the centre of this romantic ballad. Its unhurried build offers a change of mood from the brighter guitar-pop tracks.
“Hero Takes a Fall”
Chiming guitars and tightly woven vocals capture the band’s early sound. It is a rewarding choice for listeners who enjoy the more guitar-driven side of their catalogue.
