Manilow Magic is a 1970s hits compilation by Barry Manilow (born Barry Alan Pincus in Brooklyn, New York), released on Arista Records and produced by Ron Dante and Barry Manilow. Manilow was one of the most commercially dominant pop artists of the 1970s, scoring a remarkable run of US Top 40 hits between 1974 and 1983 that included five US No. 1 singles. His first, Mandy — originally titled Brandy and written by Scott English and Richard Kerr — reached No. 1 in the US in 1974. Copacabana (At the Copa) won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male in 1979 and remains his most enduring and culturally embedded song. Could It Be Magic is based on Frédéric Chopin's Prelude in C minor, Op. 28, No. 20, demonstrating Manilow's classical musical training alongside his commercial pop instincts. This compilation draws on the peak years of his commercial success and presents the songs that made him one of the defining voices of 1970s adult contemporary pop.
