Get Even is the second studio album by Brother Beyond — Nathan Moore (vocals), David White (guitar), Carl Fysh (keyboards) and Steve Alexander (drums) — released in 1988 on Parlophone Records. The London quartet had broken through with their debut Brother Beyond (1987) and Get Even delivered on that promise emphatically, reaching No. 4 on the UK Albums Chart and spawning three UK Top 20 singles. The Harder I Try reached No. 2 in the UK and was one of the most played singles of 1988; He Ain't No Competition reached No. 6 and Be My Twin reached No. 14. Brother Beyond occupied a distinctive position in the late 1980s British pop landscape — more soulful and rhythmically sophisticated than many of their contemporaries, with Moore's warm, expressive vocal and a production style that drew on American R&B and dance-pop without losing its British pop sensibility. The album's deeper cuts — Restless, Shipwrecked and King of Blue — demonstrate a musical ambition that the singles-focused narrative of their career has sometimes obscured.
