Man on the Line is the seventh studio album by Chris de Burgh, born Charles John Davidson in Venado Tuerto, Argentina and raised in Ireland, released in 1984 on A&M Records. The album reached No. 11 on the UK Albums Chart and continued de Burgh's remarkable run of commercial success in the UK and Ireland throughout the 1980s. High on Emotion reached UK No. 44 and The Ecstasy of Flight (I Love the Night) reached UK No. 73. De Burgh's distinctive approach — combining narrative storytelling, dramatic arrangements and a warm, emotionally direct vocal style — gives the album a sustained coherence and melodic generosity that rewards repeated listening. Moonlight and Vodka is one of the album's most immediately charming and melodically irresistible tracks, and Transmission Ends — at nearly six minutes — is its most ambitious and atmospheric closer.
