A Rush of Blood to the Head is the second studio album by Coldplay, released in August 2002 on Parlophone Records and produced by Ken Nelson and the band. The London quartet — Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion — had broken through with Parachute (2000), and this second album confirmed their position as one of the most commercially and critically successful British rock acts of the decade. The album debuted at No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart, sold over 15 million copies worldwide, won the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album and the Brit Award for Best British Album, and was named album of the year by numerous publications. Its sound — expansive, piano-driven rock with melodic directness, emotional ambition and a production that balances intimacy with grandeur — defined a strand of British rock that dominated the early 2000s and influenced countless subsequent acts. Clocks won the Grammy for Record of the Year in 2004.
