Meet Danny Wilson is the debut studio album by Danny Wilson — Gary Clark (vocals and guitar), Kit Clark (guitar and vocals) and Ged Grimes (bass) — from Dundee, Scotland, released in 1987 on Virgin Records. The band was named after the 1944 film Meet Danny Wilson starring Frank Sinatra. The album reached No. 4 on the UK Albums Chart. Mary's Prayer reached UK No. 3 and US No. 23 (1987) — a warm, soulful track that established Danny Wilson as one of the most immediately distinctive and critically acclaimed British pop acts of the late 1980s. The Second Summer of Love was also released as a single. The 13-track album demonstrates the band's ability to combine pop, soul, jazz and melodic songwriting with sophisticated arrangements and smooth harmonies, giving them a distinctive position in the late-1980s British pop landscape that drew comparisons to Steely Dan for their musical sophistication and attention to detail.
