The 20-track compilation covers six years of extraordinary artistic reinvention — from the cosmic folk of Space Oddity (1969) through the Ziggy Stardust glam rock peak (1972), the Aladdin Sane period (1973) and into the dystopian funk-rock of Diamond Dogs (1974). Produced across the period by Tony Visconti, Ken Scott, Gus Dudgeon and Bowie himself, these recordings document one of the most remarkable creative trajectories in rock history — a five-year run in which Bowie invented and discarded entire musical personas with a restlessness and artistic ambition that no contemporary could match. The compilation also includes All the Young Dudes — written by Bowie and given to Mott the Hoople — in Bowie's own recording.
