No Angel is the debut studio album by Dido, released in June 1999 on Arista Records and produced primarily by her brother Rollo Armstrong of Faithless. The album sold over 21 million copies worldwide, reached No. 1 in the UK, US, Australia and across Europe, and became one of the best-selling debut albums in history. Its extraordinary commercial trajectory was accelerated by Eminem's use of Thank You as the centrepiece sample of Stan (2000) — one of the most celebrated rap songs ever recorded — which introduced Dido's voice to an entirely new global audience. Dido's sound — a distinctive blend of trip-hop, folk, electronica and intimate singer-songwriter pop, delivered in a voice of remarkable warmth and understated emotional intelligence — was unlike anything else in mainstream pop at the time of release, and the album's influence on the early 2000s sound of British pop was considerable.
