Rio is the second studio album by Duran Duran — Simon Le Bon (vocals), Nick Rhodes (keyboards), John Taylor (bass), Roger Taylor (drums) and Andy Taylor (guitar) — from Birmingham, released in May 1982 on EMI Records and produced by Colin Thurston. The album reached No. 2 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 6 on the Billboard 200. Hungry Like the Wolf reached UK No. 5 and US No. 3, Save a Prayer reached UK No. 2, Rio reached UK No. 9 and US No. 14, and My Own Way reached UK No. 14. The album's extraordinary visual identity — including the iconic Patrick Nagel cover art and the groundbreaking music videos filmed by Russell Mulcahy in Sri Lanka — made Rio one of the defining albums of the MTV era and established Duran Duran as one of the most visually distinctive and commercially dominant acts of the decade.
