Armed Forces is the third studio album by Elvis Costello and the Attractions — Elvis Costello (born Declan MacManus, vocals and guitar), Steve Nieve (keyboards), Bruce Thomas (bass) and Pete Thomas (drums) — from London, released in January 1979 on Radar Records. The album reached No. 2 on the UK Albums Chart and is regarded as one of the defining releases of the new wave era. Oliver's Army reached UK No. 2 (1979) — Costello's highest-charting UK single. The 12-track album demonstrates the creative partnership between Costello and the Attractions, combining sharp songwriting, punk energy with pop sophistication, rock influences and intelligent arrangements, giving Costello a position as one of the most critically acclaimed and influential British songwriters of his generation.
