Born to Sing is the debut studio album by En Vogue — Cindy Herron, Maxine Jones, Dawn Robinson and Terry Ellis — formed in Oakland, California, released in April 1990 on Atlantic Records and produced by Denzil Foster and Thomas McElroy. The album reached No. 6 on the Billboard 200. Hold On — the album's breakthrough single — reached US No. 2 and UK No. 5 (1990), establishing En Vogue as one of the most immediately distinctive and commercially dominant female vocal groups of the decade. Lies reached US No. 38 and You Don't Have to Worry reached US No. 43. The 12-track album demonstrates the group's ability to combine R&B, soul and new jack swing with four-part vocal harmonies of extraordinary precision and emotional directness, giving them a distinctive position in the early-1990s R&B landscape.
