Journeyman is the fourteenth studio album by Eric Clapton, released in November 1989 on Duck Records / Reprise and produced by Russ Titelman. The album sold over 3 million copies worldwide, reached No. 2 on the UK Albums Chart and won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Vocal Performance, Male for Bad Love. It features an extraordinary cast of guest musicians — George Harrison plays slide guitar on Run So Far, Chaka Khan provides backing vocals on Pretending and Bad Love, and Robert Cray contributes guitar throughout — giving the album a warmth and collaborative spirit that distinguishes it from Clapton's more polished mid-1980s work. The album also demonstrates Clapton's deep roots in American blues and R&B through three well-chosen covers: Hound Dog (originally recorded by Big Mama Thornton in 1952), Before You Accuse Me (a Bo Diddley composition) and Hard Times (associated with Ray Charles). Journeyman is widely regarded as one of the strongest albums of Clapton's solo career.
