The Final Countdown is the third studio album by Europe — Joey Tempest (vocals, born Joakim Larsson), John Norum (guitar), John Leven (bass), Mic Michaeli (keyboards) and Ian Haugland (drums) — released in 1986 on Epic Records and produced by Kevin Elson. The band from Upplands Väsby, Sweden delivered one of the most commercially successful and immediately recognisable rock albums of the decade. The album reached No. 8 on the UK Albums Chart and sold over 8 million copies worldwide. The title track — its synthesiser riff written by Tempest on a Casio keyboard — reached UK No. 1 and US No. 8 and has become one of the most instantly recognisable rock recordings ever made. Carrie reached US No. 3 and UK No. 22, and Rock the Night reached UK No. 12.
