4 is the fourth studio album by Foreigner, formed in New York City by Mick Jones (guitar, formerly of Spooky Tooth) and Lou Gramm (vocals, formerly of Black Sheep), released in July 1981 on Atlantic Records and produced by Mutt Lange and Mick Jones. The album reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 — their only US No. 1 album. Waiting for a Girl Like You spent ten weeks at US No. 2 (1981), becoming one of the most enduring rock ballads of the decade. Urgent reached US No. 4 (1981) — featuring Thomas Dolby on synthesizer — and Juke Box Hero reached US No. 26 (1981). The 10-track album demonstrates Foreigner's ability to combine hard rock, AOR and melodic songwriting with Lange's polished, radio-friendly production, giving them a position as one of the most commercially dominant arena-rock acts of the early 1980s.
