Franz Ferdinand is the debut studio album by Franz Ferdinand, released in February 2004 on Domino Recording Co. and produced by Tore Johansson. The Glasgow quartet — Alex Kapranos, Nick McCarthy, Bob Hardy and Paul Thomson — had been one of the most talked-about live acts in the UK for two years before the album's release, and the record more than justified the anticipation. It won the Mercury Prize in 2004, sold over 3 million copies worldwide, reached No. 3 on the UK Albums Chart and was named album of the year by numerous publications. The album's sound — angular post-punk guitar riffs, driving dance-rock rhythms, melodic directness and Kapranos's sardonic, literary lyric writing — drew on Wire, Gang of Four and Josef K while sounding completely contemporary, and its influence on the subsequent wave of British indie rock was immediate and substantial. Take Me Out remains one of the most recognisable British indie singles of the decade.

- This Fire — One of the album's most energetic and viscerally exciting tracks; a driving, guitar-led rock song that builds to a climax of real force and gives the album one of its most immediate and physically compelling moments, demonstrating the band's power as a live act captured on record.
