Halloween Kills is the second film in David Gordon Green's Halloween trilogy, released in 2021, following his acclaimed 2018 reboot which ignored all sequels and positioned itself as a direct continuation of John Carpenter's 1978 original. Written by Green, Scott Teems and Danny McBride, the film picks up immediately where the 2018 film ended — with Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis), her daughter Karen (Judy Greer) and granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) believing Michael Myers to be dead, as he escapes the burning Strode house and resumes his rampage through Haddonfield. The film takes a bold structural decision: sidelining Laurie for much of its runtime and instead focusing on the town of Haddonfield itself — its history, its trauma and its mob mentality — as the residents form a vigilante group led by Tommy Doyle (Anthony Michael Hall). The Extended Cut restores additional footage that deepens the film's exploration of Haddonfield's collective psychology. The film grossed over $131 million worldwide.
