Hot City Nights is a 16-track rock compilation released in 1988 on Vertigo Records, bringing together some of the biggest names in AOR, arena rock and melodic rock from the 1970s and 1980s. The compilation includes four US No. 1 singles: Livin' on a Prayer by Bon Jovi (1987), Here I Go Again by Whitesnake (1987), Alone by Heart (1987) and I Want to Know What Love Is by Foreigner (1985, also UK No. 1). The compilation also includes Summer of '69 by Bryan Adams, I Want to Break Free by Queen (UK No. 3, 1984), New Sensation by INXS, Crazy Crazy Nights by Kiss (UK No. 4, 1987), Look Away by Big Country (UK No. 1, 1986), Spirit of Radio by Rush, Lavender by Marillion (UK No. 34, 1985), We Belong by Pat Benatar, Big Log by Robert Plant, Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton, Hot in the City by Billy Idol and Start Talking Love by Magnum. - Rush – Spirit of Radio — One of the most immediately distinctive and musically ambitious recordings in the Rush catalogue; its combination of a driving, rhythmically complex production and Geddy Lee's completely assured vocal gives it a sustained energy and technical precision that has made it one of the most enduring recordings in the progressive rock canon.
