X is the seventh studio album by INXS — Michael Hutchence (vocals), Andrew Farriss (keyboards and guitar), Tim Farriss (guitar), Jon Farriss (drums), Garry Gary Beers (bass) and Kirk Pengilly (guitar and saxophone) — from Sydney, Australia, released in October 1990 on Mercury Records and produced by Chris Thomas. The album reached No. 2 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 5 on the Billboard 200. Suicide Blonde reached UK No. 11 and US No. 9. Disappear reached UK No. 21 and US No. 8. Bitter Tears reached UK No. 30 and By My Side reached UK No. 42. Following the extraordinary commercial success of Kick (1987), X demonstrated the band's ability to sustain their creative momentum and commercial appeal into the new decade, with Thomas's production again giving the album a warm, groove-driven sound that suits Hutchence's charismatic vocal personality and the band's ability to combine rock energy with dance-floor appeal.
