Kick-Ass 2 is the sequel to Matthew Vaughn's 2010 cult hit, released in 2013 and directed by Jeff Wadlow, adapted from Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.'s comic book continuation. Aaron Taylor-Johnson returns as Dave Lizewski / Kick-Ass, now training with Hit-Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) and eventually joining a ragtag team of real-life superheroes led by Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey). Meanwhile, Chris D'Amico (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) reinvents himself as the supervillain The Motherf**ker and assembles his own team of costumed criminals. The film is darker and more violent than its predecessor, leaning further into the consequences of real people attempting superheroics without powers. Notably, Jim Carrey publicly disowned the film following the Sandy Hook shooting, citing its violence — a controversy that gave the film significant pre-release attention.
