The Mistaken Identity Collection is an expanded CD compilation drawing primarily from Kim Carnes' landmark 1981 album Mistaken Identity, released on EMI America Records and produced by Val Garay. The original album is best known for containing Bette Davis Eyes — written by Jackie DeShannon and Donna Weiss — which spent nine weeks at No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1981 and was the biggest-selling single in the United States that year, earning Carnes Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Carnes's voice — a distinctive, husky instrument unlike almost anyone else in mainstream pop — gave the song an immediately recognisable quality that made it one of the most played records of the decade. This collection presents the full Mistaken Identity album across 11 tracks plus 5 bonus tracks, including the Kenny Rogers duet Don't Fall in Love with a Dreamer and extended and alternate versions of key tracks.
