Released in 1987 on Warner Bros. Records, the La Bamba soundtrack is one of the finest film soundtracks of the decade — a joyful, energetic celebration of Ritchie Valens' music and the early rock 'n' roll era. The film starred Lou Diamond Phillips as Valens and became a surprise box office hit; the soundtrack followed suit, topping charts worldwide. Side A is dominated by Los Lobos, who recorded faithful yet vibrant new versions of Valens' classic songs, while Side B features a stellar cast of rockabilly and rock 'n' roll legends adding their own flavour to the era's sound.
