Gatecrashing is the second studio album by Living in a Box — Richard Darbyshire (vocals), Marcus Vere (keyboards) and Anthony Critchlow (drums) — released in 1989 on Chrysalis Records. The Sheffield trio had broken through with their self-titled debut (1987) and the UK No. 5 single Living in a Box, and Gatecrashing followed with a more polished and sonically ambitious sound, drawing on soul, funk and electronic production to create one of the more distinctive British pop albums of the late 1980s. The album spawned two UK Top 10 singles: Blow the House Down (No. 10) and Room in Your Heart (No. 5). This special edition double LP presents the full album across Sides A and B, with a bonus LP on Sides C and D containing extended mixes and remixes — including the Gatecrashing (Diesel Mix), Blow the House Down (Conversion Version) and additional tracks — making it a particularly complete and collectable edition of the album.
Stand-Out Tracks
- Room in Your Heart — The album's most melodically generous and emotionally direct single; a warm, mid-tempo soul-pop track with a lyric of romantic longing and a production of complete commercial precision, and one of the most immediately replayable and emotionally satisfying moments on the record.
