My Soul to Take is a supernatural horror film released in 2010, written and directed by Wes Craven — his first original screenplay since A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) and his last solo directorial effort before Scream 4 (2011). The film is set in the small town of Riverton, where a serial killer known as the Riverton Ripper was killed sixteen years earlier — on the same night that seven children were born. Now those seven teenagers, known as the Riverton Seven, are turning sixteen, and someone — or something — is killing them one by one. Max Thieriot plays Bug, the most troubled of the seven, who believes he may carry the Ripper's soul within him. The film was originally shot in 3D and received a mixed critical reception, but offers genuine Craven atmosphere and the kind of small-town American horror mythology that the director handled better than almost anyone. A worthwhile entry in the Craven catalogue and a curio for fans of his work.
