Oz the Great and Powerful is Disney's fantasy prequel to The Wizard of Oz, released in 2013 and directed by Sam Raimi (Spider-Man, Evil Dead). James Franco stars as Oscar Diggs, a small-time circus magician and con artist who is swept from Kansas to the Land of Oz by a tornado, where he is mistaken for the great wizard prophesied to save the kingdom. Alongside three witches — Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams) — Oscar must decide whether to become the hero Oz needs or remain the fraud he has always been. The film grossed over $493 million worldwide and is a visually spectacular production, with Raimi's distinctive visual flair bringing the world of Oz to vivid, colourful life. The 3D Blu-ray presentation is one of the format's better showcases, with the transition from black-and-white Kansas to the full-colour world of Oz particularly impressive.
