Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters is the second film in the Percy Jackson franchise, released in 2013 and directed by Thor Freudenthal, adapted from Rick Riordan's second novel in the Percy Jackson & the Olympians series. Logan Lerman returns as Percy Jackson, son of Poseidon, who discovers he has a half-brother — a cyclops named Tyson (Douglas Smith) — just as Camp Half-Blood comes under threat. To save the camp, Percy and his friends Annabeth (Alexandra Daddario) and Grover (Brandon T. Jackson) must venture into the mythical Sea of Monsters — the Bermuda Triangle of Greek mythology — to retrieve the legendary Golden Fleece. The film draws on a rich vein of Greek mythology, from the Cyclops and the Colchis Bulls to the Charybdis and the Titan Kronos, and delivers its adventure with real energy and visual invention. A solid, entertaining family fantasy that improves on its predecessor in pace and ambition.
