Hi Infidelity is the ninth studio album by REO Speedwagon — Kevin Cronin (vocals), Gary Richrath (guitar), Neal Doughty (keyboards), Bruce Hall (bass) and Alan Gratzer (drums) — released in November 1980 on Epic Records and produced by Cronin and Richrath. The band from Champaign, Illinois had been building a devoted following through relentless touring throughout the 1970s, and Hi Infidelity delivered their commercial breakthrough on a massive scale. The album spent 15 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and sold over 10 million copies in the United States, making it one of the best-selling albums of 1981. Keep on Loving You reached US No. 1 and UK No. 7, Take It on the Run reached US No. 5 and UK No. 19, and In Your Letter reached US No. 20. The album's combination of arena rock energy and melodic power ballad songwriting gave it a broad commercial appeal that crossed demographic boundaries and established REO Speedwagon as one of the defining American rock acts of the early 1980s.
