Hold Me in Your Arms is the second studio album by Rick Astley, from Newton-le-Willows, Lancashire, released in 1988 on RCA Records and produced by Stock Aitken Waterman. The album reached No. 8 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 10 on the Billboard 200. Following the extraordinary success of his debut Whenever You Need Somebody (1987) — which featured the global hit Never Gonna Give You Up (UK No. 1, US No. 1) — Hold Me in Your Arms demonstrated Astley's growing role as a songwriter, with several tracks co-written by Astley himself, showing a gradual independence from the SAW production team. She Wants to Dance with Me reached UK No. 6 and US No. 10 (1988), Take Me to Your Heart reached UK No. 13 (1988), Hold Me in Your Arms reached UK No. 10 (1989) and Giving Up on Love reached UK No. 15 (1989). The 10-track album demonstrates Astley's ability to combine polished pop, dance and blue-eyed soul with a vocal of extraordinary warmth and commercial directness.
