Hold Me in Your Arms is the second studio album by Rick Astley, born in Newton-le-Willows, Merseyside, released in 1988 on RCA Records and produced by Stock Aitken Waterman. Following the extraordinary commercial success of his debut Whenever You Need Somebody (1987) — which included the worldwide No. 1 Never Gonna Give You Up — Astley's second album reached No. 8 on the UK Albums Chart and spawned four UK Top 30 singles. She Wants to Dance with Me reached UK No. 6 and US No. 6, Take Me to Your Heart reached UK No. 8, Hold Me in Your Arms reached UK No. 10 and Giving Up on Love reached UK No. 26. The album also includes a medley of Ain't Too Proud to Beg and Put Yourself in My Place — both classics from the Temptations' Motown catalogue — demonstrating Astley's deep roots in soul and R&B. Astley's voice — a remarkably deep baritone for a 22-year-old — and the SAW production team's melodic instincts give the album a warm, polished pop-soul sound of complete commercial effectiveness.
