Human is the twenty-first studio album by Rod Stewart, released in September 2001 on Atlantic Records and produced by Trevor Horn — one of the most celebrated and technically ambitious producers in British pop history, whose credits include Frankie Goes to Hollywood's Relax and Two Tribes, ABC's The Lexicon of Love, Yes's Owner of a Lonely Heart and Seal's Kiss from a Rose. The album is a significant moment in Stewart's career: it was his last album of original material before he pivoted entirely to the American Songbook series that would dominate the remainder of the decade and sell tens of millions of copies worldwide. Horn's production gives the album a polished, contemporary sheen that suits Stewart's voice — still immediately recognisable despite the decades — and the 12-track set ranges from the driving title track to the atmospheric collaboration with Helicopter Girl on Don't Come Around Here and the jazz-inflected Charlie Parker Loves Me, which hints at the direction Stewart would take with the Songbook albums.
