Album Introduction
London dance collective S’Express brought a playful, sample-driven approach to late-eighties club music, blending house rhythms, disco influences and colourful vocal hooks. Their 1989 debut album, Original Soundtrack, expands that sound into an inventive sequence of dancefloor tracks, atmospheric interludes and characterful studio experiments.
Released on Rhythm King, the album was produced by Mark Moore and Mark McGuire, with Pascal Gabriel contributing production to “Theme from S’Express” and “Superfly Guy”. Its cinematic presentation extends to the track sequencing, with the two sides styled as “Reel 1” and “Reel 2”.
The photographed copy includes the printed inner sleeve and a separate picture-and-credits insert. Please note that the outer sleeve has visible surface tears and areas of artwork loss on the front.
Stand-Out Tracks
Theme from S’Express
A rolling disco groove, punchy samples and a commanding vocal hook combine in the group’s signature track. Its playful construction captures the excitement of house music crossing from clubs into mainstream pop.
Superfly Guy
A springy bassline and layered vocal hooks give this track an exuberant dancefloor character. The production balances crisp electronic rhythms with a colourful disco sensibility.
Hey Music Lover
An insistent beat and repeated vocal refrain make this one of the album’s most immediate selections. Its energetic arrangement carries the group’s club-focused sound onto the second side.
Can You Feel Me
Rhythmic keyboards and vocal textures build a more immersive groove. It offers a deeper dancefloor moment alongside the album’s brighter, more familiar singles.
Special and Golden (Parts I & II)
This two-part piece gives the album room to explore contrasting textures and moods. It rewards listening beyond the singles, revealing the more experimental side of S’Express.
