Album Introduction
No Protection is the second studio album by Starship — Mickey Thomas (vocals), Grace Slick (vocals), Craig Chaquico (guitar), Pete Sears (bass and keyboards) and Donny Baldwin (drums) — released in 1987 on RCA Records and produced by Peter Wolf. The album reached No. 12 on the Billboard 200. Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now — featured in the film Mannequin (1987) starring Andrew McCarthy and Kim Cattrall — reached US No. 1 and UK No. 1, giving Starship their second US chart-topping single following We Built This City (1985). It's Not Over ('Til It's Over) reached US No. 9 and Beat Patrol reached US No. 38. The 10-track album follows the commercially focused, radio-friendly direction established on Knee Deep in the Hoopla (1985), with Wolf's production giving the album a warm, contemporary sheen and the vocal interplay between Thomas and Slick remaining at the centre of the band's sound.
