Album Introduction
Released in 1987 on Telstar, Always and Forever: The Love Album brings together 16 tracks spanning romantic pop, smooth soul and rock ballads. Featuring Chris de Burgh, Atlantic Starr, Janet Jackson and Anita Baker, it captures the softer side of the decade alongside earlier favourites from Kate Bush and George Benson.
From the intimate delivery of “Let’s Wait Awhile” to the soaring chorus of “Glory of Love”, the collection balances gentle moments with larger, more dramatic arrangements. Kenny G’s instrumental “Songbird” adds a change of texture, making this an inviting compilation for a relaxed evening or a nostalgic journey through familiar love songs.
Stand-Out Tracks
Atlantic Starr – Always
Warm vocal harmonies and a gently unfolding melody give this duet its lasting romantic appeal. Its polished arrangement keeps the focus on the interplay between the voices.
Janet Jackson – Let’s Wait Awhile
A restrained ballad with a delicate backing and an intimate vocal performance. Its thoughtful lyric and unhurried pace offer a quieter contrast to the collection’s bigger productions.
Anita Baker – Sweet Love
Baker’s rich voice brings depth and warmth to a smooth, soul-inflected arrangement. The graceful melody and expressive phrasing make it one of the album’s most absorbing selections.
Kate Bush – The Man with the Child in His Eyes
An intimate piano-led song that brings a dreamlike atmosphere to the second side. Bush’s poised vocal and the subtle orchestration give it a distinctive tenderness.
Labi Siffre – (Something Inside) So Strong
A powerful song of resilience that broadens the collection’s emotional scope beyond romance. Its measured opening builds towards an uplifting chorus, carried by Siffre’s assured delivery.
