Album Introduction
Hit Factory 3: The Best of Stock Aitken Waterman brings together the bright melodies, electronic rhythms and polished production of Mike Stock, Matt Aitken and Pete Waterman. Released in 1989 on Fanfare and PWL, this compilation features Rick Astley, Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, Brother Beyond, Samantha Fox and more.
The first record presents twelve selections, ranging from the upbeat “Take Me to Your Heart” and “I’d Rather Jack” to Kylie and Jason’s romantic duet “Especially for You”. The collection also includes “Help!” by Bananarama and Lananeeneenoonoo, alongside the ensemble recording of “Ferry ’Cross the Mersey”.
This special double-album edition adds a second record containing nine 12-inch mixes arranged into two Pumping Party Mix sides. The pictured gatefold sleeve includes artist photographs and notes, making it an engaging snapshot of the Stock Aitken Waterman sound at the end of the 1980s.
Stand-Out Tracks
“Take Me to Your Heart” – Rick Astley
A brisk electronic rhythm and an immediately catchy chorus give this track its buoyant appeal. Astley’s rich vocal provides a distinctive contrast to the bright production.
“Made in Heaven” – Kylie Minogue
An energetic pop selection with a light, uplifting feel. Its insistent rhythm and melodic hooks capture the dance-oriented side of the compilation.
“Especially for You” – Kylie & Jason
A romantic duet that offers a gentler change of pace. The shared vocals and measured arrangement place the emphasis on melody rather than dancefloor momentum.
“I’d Rather Jack” – The Reynolds Girls
A playful, rhythm-led track with a direct, memorable refrain. Its cheeky attitude brings a different personality to the collection’s polished pop sound.
“He Ain’t No Competition” – Brother Beyond
Bright harmonies and a driving beat make this a lively second-side highlight. The combination of an assertive chorus and upbeat arrangement fits neatly into the Hit Factory style.
