Album Introduction
The Hit Factory: The Best of Stock Aitken Waterman brings together fourteen recordings showcasing the production trio’s blend of bright melodies, electronic rhythms and dancefloor energy. Released in 1987 on Stylus, the compilation features Rick Astley, Mel & Kim, Bananarama, Sinitta, Samantha Fox and Princess.
“Never Gonna Give You Up” opens the album, followed by selections including Sinitta’s “Toy Boy” in its Extra Muscle Mix and Bananarama’s “I Heard a Rumour”. The second side includes “F.L.M.”, “Venus” and Samantha Fox’s “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Me Now” in the Jump and Jive Mix, before closing with Stock Aitken Waterman’s own “Roadblock”.
The pictured sleeve features artist portraits on the front and individual track notes on the reverse, alongside an introduction to Mike Stock, Matt Aitken and Pete Waterman. It’s a colourful snapshot of their sound, balancing familiar pop favourites with soulful and club-oriented selections.
Stand-Out Tracks
“Never Gonna Give You Up” – Rick Astley
A rich lead vocal and buoyant electronic backing give the opening track its immediately recognisable character. The contrast between Astley’s deep delivery and the bright chorus captures the compilation’s polished pop appeal.
“Toy Boy (Extra Muscle Mix)” – Sinitta
A playful vocal and insistent rhythm bring an energetic dance-pop feel. This mix adds variety for listeners exploring beyond the familiar song titles.
“I Heard a Rumour” – Bananarama
Light, tightly woven vocals sit over a brisk electronic arrangement. Its melodic chorus and lively pace make it a natural first-side highlight.
“Venus” – Bananarama
A strong hook and driving dance rhythm give this reinterpretation its distinctive lift. The group’s vocal style brings a different personality to the familiar melody.
“Roadblock” – Stock Aitken Waterman
A groove-led closing selection that shifts the focus towards funk and rhythmic texture. It provides a contrasting finish to the album’s more vocal-centred pop tracks.
