Friday's Child is the second studio album by Will Young, released in October 2003 on RCA Records. Young had won the inaugural series of Pop Idol in February 2002, beating Gareth Gates in a public vote, and his debut single Evergreen / Anything Is Possible sold over 1.1 million copies in its first week — the fastest-selling debut single in UK chart history at the time. Friday's Child followed his debut album From Now On (2002) and demonstrated that Young's commercial appeal was built on genuine artistic substance: the album sold over 1 million copies in the UK, debuted at No. 1, and spawned the single Leave Right Now — written by Eg White — which spent four weeks at No. 1 in the UK and won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically. Young's voice — warm, technically accomplished and with a natural soul quality that distinguished him from many of his contemporaries — gives the album a consistency and emotional depth that has helped it endure well beyond the Pop Idol context in which his career began. The album opens with a cover of Stephen Stills' Love the One You're With (1970).

- Love the One You're With — Stephen Stills' 1970 classic, originally recorded for his debut solo album; Young's reading is warm and rhythmically confident, and the song's message of present-tense romantic pragmatism gives the album an opening of immediate energy and good humour that sets the tone for what follows.
