Beverly Hills Cop III (1994)
Beverly Hills Cop III is the third instalment in the franchise, released in 1994 and directed by John Landis (The Blues Brothers, Trading Places, An American Werewolf in London). Eddie Murphy returns as Axel Foley, the fast-talking Detroit detective who finds himself back in Beverly Hills investigating a counterfeiting operation run out of Wonderworld, a vast theme park. Judge Reinhold returns as Billy Rosewood, and Héctor Elizondo joins the cast as the park's head of security. The film is generally regarded as the weakest of the trilogy — the theme park setting lacks the fish-out-of-water energy of the original, and Landis and Murphy were reportedly at odds throughout production. That said, Murphy's charisma is undimmed, the film has its moments, and for fans of the franchise and collectors of 90s action comedy it remains an essential piece of the Axel Foley story. A solid Blu-ray copy at a fair price.
