The Beverly Hills Cop – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is the soundtrack album to the 1984 action-comedy film directed by Martin Brest and starring Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley, released in 1984 on MCA Records. Axel F by Harold Faltermeyer — the film's instrumental theme — won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance (1985) and became one of the most immediately recognisable film themes of the decade. The Heat Is On by Glenn Frey (of the Eagles) reached US No. 2 (1985), Neutron Dance by The Pointer Sisters reached US No. 6 (1984) and New Attitude by Patti LaBelle reached US No. 17 (1985). The 10-track soundtrack also features contributions from Shalamar, The System and Danny Elfman, and demonstrates the vibrant pop, rock and electronic sounds that defined mid-1980s film music.
