An Innocent Man is the ninth studio album by Billy Joel — born William Martin Joel, from The Bronx, New York — released in August 1983 on CBS Records. The album reached UK No. 2 and US No. 4, paying tribute to the sounds of the 1950s and 1960s with a blend of doo-wop, soul, R&B, pop and rock influences. Uptown Girl reached UK No. 1 and US No. 3 (1983), Tell Her About It reached US No. 1 (1983), The Longest Time reached US No. 14 (1984) and An Innocent Man reached US No. 29 (1984).
