Remember: The Ultimate Collection is the definitive 24-track compilation from Cat Stevens (born Steven Demetre Georgiou), drawing on his complete catalogue for Island Records from his debut single I Love My Dog (1966) through to his final recordings before his conversion to Islam in 1977. Stevens — the son of a Greek Cypriot father and Swedish mother, raised in London — was one of the most gifted and commercially successful singer-songwriters of the late 1960s and early 1970s, and his run of albums from Tea for the Tillerman (1970) through Catch Bull at Four (1972) represents one of the most sustained periods of creative excellence in British folk rock. He converted to Islam in 1977, took the name Yusuf Islam, and withdrew entirely from the music industry for over two decades before returning as Yusuf/Cat Stevens in the 2000s. The compilation includes The First Cut Is the Deepest — written by Stevens and later covered by Rod Stewart and Sheryl Crow — and If You Want to Sing Out, Sing Out, written for Hal Ashby's cult film Harold and Maude (1971).

- Peace Train — One of Stevens's most joyful and melodically generous songs and his most explicit statement of spiritual optimism; a driving, rhythmically propulsive folk-rock track with a chorus of irresistible uplift that gave him a US Top 10 hit and remains one of the most immediately recognisable songs in his catalogue.
- The First Cut Is the Deepest — Written by Stevens and one of the most covered songs in British pop history; Rod Stewart's 1977 version and Sheryl Crow's 2003 version both reached No. 1 in the UK, making it one of the rare songs to top the UK chart in two different decades by two different artists. Stevens's own recording is the original and, for many, the definitive version.
