Album Introduction
Coldplay take their melodic stadium-pop sound into a colourful cosmic setting on Music of the Spheres, their ninth studio album. Released in 2021, the record brings together Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion for a collection built around connection, hope and a shared sense of humanity.
With Max Martin at the centre of its production, the album combines bright electronic textures, expansive choruses and atmospheric interludes. “Higher Power” supplies an exuberant opening statement, while “My Universe”, a collaboration with BTS, pairs the band’s melodic approach with bilingual pop vocals. Selena Gomez joins Martin for the reflective “Let Somebody Go”.
Subtitled Vol I. From Earth with Love on the sleeve, the album moves between compact pop songs and the ambitious closing piece “Coloratura”. It offers both immediate hooks and a more exploratory finale for listeners who enjoy Coldplay’s cinematic side.
Stand-Out Tracks
Higher Power
Pulsing synthesisers and a buoyant rhythm build towards a soaring chorus. Its optimistic energy introduces the album’s bright, outward-looking character.
Humankind
An urgent beat and ringing instrumental layers give this track a strong sense of forward motion. The expansive vocal melody carries the communal, uplifting spirit that runs through the record.
Let Somebody Go
Chris Martin and Selena Gomez trade gentle vocal lines over a restrained arrangement. The softer setting gives the song’s theme of separation room to register without overwhelming it with production.
My Universe
Coldplay and BTS combine English and Korean vocals in an exuberant pop collaboration. A strong melodic hook and glossy electronic arrangement reinforce its message of connection across boundaries.
Coloratura
The extended closing track unfolds through contrasting sections, spacious keyboards and expressive guitar work. Its patient build and shifting instrumental passages reveal a more progressive, exploratory side to the album.
