Album Introduction
Daryl Hall & John Oates’ Live at the Apollo brings their melodic pop-soul sound together with guest vocalists David Ruffin and Eddie Kendrick. Released in 1985 on RCA, the album pairs an extended “Apollo Medley” with live performances of “Everytime You Go Away”, “I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do)” and other selections.
Produced by Daryl Hall, John Oates and Bob Clearmountain, the record places soulful vocals and rhythmic arrangements at its centre. This black-vinyl copy comes with the pictured printed inner sleeve, featuring performance photographs and credits, while the front-cover sticker highlights the medley and “Everytime You Go Away”.
Stand-Out Tracks
“Apollo Medley”
“Get Ready”, “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg”, “The Way You Do the Things You Do” and “My Girl” are brought together in an extended opening performance. The sequence gives the guest vocalists room to shine and establishes the album’s celebratory soul atmosphere.
“Everytime You Go Away”
A spacious live interpretation that gives the melody and expressive vocals room to develop. Its extended arrangement makes it a central selection for listeners drawn to the album’s more reflective side.
“I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do)”
A groove-led highlight with a measured rhythm and distinctive vocal phrasing. The live setting brings a different texture to the song while retaining its cool, controlled feel.
“One on One”
A melodic contrast to the larger-scale opening medley. The intimate mood and smooth vocal delivery suit the record’s blend of pop accessibility and soul influences.
“Adult Education”
An energetic closing selection with a strong rhythmic drive. Its fuller, more assertive feel provides a lively finish to the album.
