Life for Rent is the second studio album by Dido (Florian Cloud de Bounevialle O'Malley Armstrong), released in September 2003 on Arista Records and produced by her brother Rollo Armstrong — co-founder and principal songwriter of Faithless. The album sold over 20 million copies worldwide, spent 10 weeks at No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart and was the best-selling album in the UK in 2003, outselling its nearest rival by a considerable margin. It followed the extraordinary success of her debut No Angel (1999) — itself one of the best-selling British debut albums of all time, boosted by Eminem's sample of Thank You on Stan — and demonstrated that her appeal was not a one-album phenomenon. Dido's voice — warm, intimate and completely unshowy — and Rollo's production — drawing on trip-hop, folk, electronic and ambient influences — give the album a sound that is immediately distinctive and deeply comforting, and the album closes with the ten-minute See the Sun, one of the most ambitious and emotionally satisfying album closers of the decade.
