The Long Run is the sixth studio album by the Eagles — Don Henley (drums and vocals), Glenn Frey (guitar and vocals), Joe Walsh (guitar), Don Felder (guitar) and Timothy B. Schmit (bass) — from Los Angeles, California, released in September 1979 on Asylum Records. The album reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and was the band's final studio album before their 14-year hiatus, not followed until Hell Freezes Over (1994). Heartache Tonight reached US No. 1 (1979) — the band's last US No. 1 single of the classic era. The Long Run reached US No. 8 (1979) and I Can't Tell You Why — featuring Schmit on lead vocals — reached US No. 8 (1980). The 10-track album demonstrates the Eagles' ability to combine polished rock, country influences and soft rock with their trademark harmonies, giving them a position as one of the most commercially dominant American rock bands of the 1970s.
