Sleeping With The Past is Elton John's twenty-second studio album, released in August 1989 on Rocket Records. Produced by Chris Thomas, it was conceived as a heartfelt tribute to the soul music of the 1960s that had inspired Elton and lyricist Bernie Taupin in their formative years — Stax, Motown, and Atlantic all casting long shadows across the record. The album marked a genuine creative and commercial resurgence, reaching #1 in the UK Albums Chart and eventually yielding Elton's first-ever UK #1 single in Sacrifice (upon re-release in 1990). A warm, soulful, and deeply personal record that stands as one of the finest albums of his later career.
