461 Ocean Boulevard is the second solo studio album by Eric Clapton, born Eric Patrick Clapton in Ripley, Surrey, released in September 1974 on RSO Records. The album title refers to the address in Miami, Florida where Clapton stayed during the recording sessions. The album reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and marked Clapton's return to recording after a period of heroin addiction and recovery. I Shot the Sheriff — a cover of the Bob Marley and the Wailers original from Burnin' (1973) — reached US No. 1 (1974), giving Clapton his only US chart-topping single and introducing reggae to a mainstream rock audience. Willie and the Hand Jive reached US No. 26 (1974). The 10-track album demonstrates Clapton's ability to combine blues, rock, reggae and soul influences with a relaxed, understated guitar style that marked a deliberate departure from the virtuosic intensity of his work with Cream and Derek and the Dominos.
