August is Eric Clapton's fourteenth studio album, released in November 1986 on Duck Records. Produced by Phil Collins — who also plays drums and co-wrote several tracks — it was a deliberate move towards a more contemporary, polished sound, and it paid off handsomely: the album reached #3 in the UK Albums Chart and #37 in the US Billboard 200, and spawned multiple charting singles. The Collins production brings a crisp, stadium-ready sheen to Clapton's blues-rooted guitar work, and the result is one of the most commercially successful albums of his career. A notable guest appearance from Tina Turner on Tearing Us Apart adds further star power to an already strong record.
